BICUTAN, TAGUIG CITY – The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) will hold the Virtual Paper Presentation of the 2020 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) Outstanding Research and Development Award (ORDA) on September 14, 2020, Monday, at 9:00 AM with a live broadcast on the NAST PHL social media accounts. This year, six (6) selected entry papers from different institutions will vie for the highly coveted awards for Basic Research and Applied Research.

This year’s selected nominees and their entry paper for presentations are:

I. Eduardo A. Quisumbing Medal for Basic Research
1. Mary Donnabelle L. Balela, D.Eng, University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman – “The simplest method of growing metal oxide nanostructures”
2. Rachel June R. Gotanco, Ph.D., UP Diliman - “Rarity of the “common” coral Pacillopora damicornis in the Western Philippines archipelago”
3. Roel R. Suralta, Ph.D., Philippine Rice Research Institute - “Quantitative trait loci associated with root elongation ability of rice under nitrogen-deficient condition”

II. Julian A. Banzon Medal for Applied Research
1. Erwin P. Enriquez, Ph.D., Ateneo de Manila University – “Field-ready tools for fingerprinting of herbal materials for the medicinal plant industry”
2. Michael Angelo B. Promentilla, D.Eng., De La Salle University - “Circular innovation through geopolymer technology: Transforming waste to resource”
3. Francis Eric P. Almaquer, M.S., UP Visayas - “Simple and rapid colorimetric sensing of Ni (II) ions in tap water based on aggregation of citrate-stabilized silver nanoparticles”
