BICUTAN, TAGUIG CITY - The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), will conduct a webinar on measuring mental health and well-being during the pandemic on April 30, 2021, Friday, at 10:00 AM via Zoom and Facebook Live.
The webinar will present the work of Academician (Acd.) Allan Benedict I. Bernardo and his group on translating the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scales (DASS-21) into Tagalog-based Filipino, Cebuano, Ilocano, Hiligaynon, and Kapampangan. It will summarize the processes involved in translating and validating the scale, and present preliminary screening results using the translated scales. It will also present a newly developed Coronavirus Pandemic Anxiety Scale (CPAS-11) in English that was validated as a screening tool for pandemic-related anxiety symptoms.
Furthermore, Acd. Bernardo will discuss how these research efforts fit within broader efforts to have more accurate indicators and mapping of common psychological symptoms that will need to be addressed by the country’s mental health professionals, efforts to provide valid psychological assessment in a linguistically diverse society, and the usefulness of universal screening for psychological symptoms in organizations.
Three (3) distinguished guests will join Acd. Bernardo in the discussion, namely, Dr. Constantine D. Della (Department of Psychiatry, University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital), Dr. Melissa R. Garabiles (Department of Psychology, Ateneo de Manila University), and Dr. Imelu G. Mordeno (Department of Professional Education, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology). Dr. Cristina J. Montiel of the Ateneo de Manila University will serve as master of ceremonies and moderator.
