CALOOCAN –The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Office NCR, will conduct the Symposium for the Youth in Caloocan City on December 3, 2022, 8:00 AM at the University of Caloocan City-North Congressional Campus. This event is open to all junior and senior high school students from Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela (CaMANaVa) area.
Three (3) distinguished scientists are invited to the event as resource speakers to share their knowledge and experiences in their respective fields of expertise. They are National Scientist Raul V. Fabella, the interim vice president of NAST PHL and an expert in the field of economics, National Scientist Lourdes J. Cruz, a member of NAST PHL and an expert in the field of biochemistry, and Academician Mudjekeewis D. Santos, a member of NAST PHL and an expert in the fields of fisheries science and applied marine biosciences. The symposium will be moderated by Dr. Jomar F. Rabajante, 2021 NAST Outstanding Young Scientist awardee.
The Symposium for the Youth started in 2016 in partnership with the DOST Regional Offices. It highlights varying topics featuring National Scientists, NAST Members, and its awardees who are accomplished in their respective fields. Its objectives are to promote science and technology, bring our scientists closer to the youth, and inspire and encourage the students to pursue a career in science and technology. In 2020, ScienTeach was launched as a virtual Symposium for the Youth, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s symposium will be the first in-person or non-virtual conduct of the event under the new normal.
The event will also be participated by Academician Eufemio T. Rasco Jr., NAST PHL Interim President, Dr. Wilfredo E. Cabral, DepEd-NCR Regional Director, and Engineer Romelen T. Tresvalles, DOST-NCR Officer-in-Charge.
