On 12-13 July 2023, the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) will conduct the 45th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) with the theme "Agham at Teknolohiya para sa Demokrasya (Science and Technology for Democracy)" at The Manila Hotel and via Zoom and Facebook Live. The Social Sciences Division, chaired by National Scientist (NS) Raul V. Fabella will be hosting this year’s ASM.
NAST PHL has chosen “Agham at Teknolohiya para sa Demokrasya (Science and Technology for Democracy)” as the theme for the 45th Annual Scientific Meeting. The choice is firmly grounded on the role of science and technology in catalyzing and advancing developmental empowerment in a democracy. The scientific meeting also aims to present the utilization of science and technology in strengthening democratic institutions and processes.
The two-day event will include plenary sessions on agrarian reform, democratic access to quality higher education, energy-water-food nexus in the context of democratization and the sciences, democratizing health and healthcare through equity in health, government anti-poverty programs, and democratic citizenship and artificial intelligence as well as scientific poster session, exhibits, and awarding ceremony for the 2023 NAST Awardees.
Prior to the conduct of the 45th ASM, Regional Scientific Meetings (RSMs) in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao were conducted in partnership with the DOST Regional Offices.
The Annual Scientific Meeting is an annual activity of the Academy that serves as the leading forum for the presentation of scientific and policy research. Policy recommendations on appropriate interventions will be submitted to the Philippine government and the private sector for their consideration and appropriate action.
