BICUTAN, TAGUIG CITY – The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines  (NAST PHL), in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Office XII, will conduct the ScienTeach: Symposium for the Youth in Koronadal City, South Cotabato on March 25, 2025.

This ScienTeach: Symposium for the Youth aims to bring National Scientists, NAST PHL Members, and NAST PHL awardees closer to the youth, and ignite the young minds of students to pursue a career in science, technology, and innovation. This program is open to all junior and senior high school students.

Four (4) distinguished scientists are invited as resource speakers to share their knowledge, experiences, and accomplishments in their respective fields of expertise. They are:

  • Academician Windell L. Rivera, a scientist recognized for his significant contributions to microbiology, particularly in the field of protozoology;
  • Academician Cleofas R. Cervancia, a scientist in the field of entomology, specifically in ecology pollination biology focusing on the potential of native stingless bees for pollinating crops and producing honey, pollen, and propolis;
  • Academician Virginia C. Cuevas, a scientist known for her significant contributions in the field of mycology and environmental biology through her studies on cellulose and lignin-degrading fungi; and
  • Academician Guillermo Q. Tabios III, a scientist recognized for his significant contributions to the civil engineering field particularly in hydraulics engineering and water resources.

The symposium will also be participated in by Academician Jaime C. Montoya, President of NAST PHL, Dr. Carlito D. Rocafort, Regional Director of DepEd Regional Office XII, Engr. Sammy P. Malawan, Regional Director of DOST Regional Office XII, and Ms. Luningning E. Samarita-Domingo, Director of NAST PHL.
