National Science Academies of the Philippines (NAST) and Malaysia (ASM) host the 2021 ASEAN Foresight Alliance (AFA) Workshop
MANILA, Philippines - The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), in partnership with the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM), will hold the 2nd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Foresight Alliance Workshop on 7-9 June 2021 via Zoom.
The creation of the ASEAN Foresight Alliance (AFA) was proposed by Malaysia during the 52nd Meeting of the ASEAN Sub-committee on S&T Infrastructure and Resources Development (SCIRD) on 1 – 3 April 2018 in Puspitek, Indonesia to act as a platform to facilitate evidence-based future planning and assist the ASEAN Member States (AMS) in developing their national policies, strategies, and action plans.
The Manila Workshop/Meeting is a follow up event to the 1st AFA Workshop/Meeting held on 11-13 December 2019 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It aims to initiate the process towards having an ASEAN Vision 2050, discuss the plans and activities of the ASEAN Members, and expand the ASEAN Foresight Alliance network.
Mental Well-being of Students in the time of Covid-19
The National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST PHL) will hold a special episode of ScienTeach on 10 May 2021, 9:00 AM via Zoom and Facebook Live in partnership with DOST-National Capital Region (NCR) with the theme, “Mental Well-being of Students in the time of Covid-19.”
This special episode will include the turn-over of the National Scientists’ Posters to be led by National Scientist Dolores A. Ramirez and NAST PHL President, Academician Rhodora V. Azanza. Secretary Fortunato T. De La Peña, Undersecretary Renato U. Solidum Jr., Director Lilia T. Habacon, and Regional Director Wilfredo E. Cabral were also invited to the ceremonial turn-over of the posters. This project of NAST PHL aims to promote our National Scientists to the Filipino youth and to introduce their works and significant contributions to the country.
The topics for the ScienTeach proper will focus on the mental health status of students, the effects of the pandemic, and mechanisms to cope up with pandemic stress. Invited speakers are Academician Allan Benedict I. Bernardo, Dr. Clarissa F. Delariarte, and Dr. Ma. Regina M. Hechanova. The event will also be participated by Regional Director Jose B. Patalinjug III of DOST NCR and NAST PHL Vice President, Academician Fabian M. Dayrit.
In the past years, the Symposium for the Youth with NAST Scientists was held in various provinces of the country in partnership with the DOST Regional Offices. Because of the pandemic, the symposium went virtual as an adaptive effort of NAST PHL to continue serving its stakeholders. ScienTeach is a collection of episodes that highlights varying topics featuring NAST Members and its awardees who are accomplished in their respective fields. It utilizes online platforms while obtaining the objectives of the traditional lecture series, which are to: 1) promote science and technology, 2) promote the NAST members and its awardees by bringing them closer to the youth, and 3) inspire and encourage the students to pursue a career in science.
NAST PHL is an attached agency to the DOST and serves as the country’s premier recognition and advisory body on Science and Technology.
