NAST PHL launches Special Concerns Program, to boost in-depth and future-driven policy research on ST&I concerns

The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) launched the Special Concerns Program (SCP) on 01 September 2023 at the Philippine International Convention Center. This initiative emerged from an increase in funding provided for its formulation of policy recommendations on relevant science, technology, and innovation (ST&I) concerns.The SCP has 14 projects on a wide range of topics. The results of in-depth studies on these areas shall be used as valuable inputs for the formulation of policy resolutions and legislative proposals.
The program is headed by the chairperson of the SCP Steering Committee, Academician William G. Padolina who has previously served as NAST PHL President (2012-2016, 2017-2018) and Secretary of the Philippine Department of Science and Technology (1994-1999). The SCP has also engaged more than 70 experts in its 14 Technical Working Groups, and these include National Scientists, NAST PHL members (Academicians), Career Scientists, Oustanding Young Scientists, and officials from the DOST and other national government agencies.
NAST PHL to convene a session at the UNGA78 Science Summit

BICUTAN, TAGUIG CITY - The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) will convene a hybrid session for the annual Science Summit at the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA78) with the central theme of the role of science in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on 20 September 2023, 8:00 a.m. (UTC+8).
NAST PHL gathers SUCs, PHEIs, and LUCs to identify STI Foresight Indicators

The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) conducted a 2-day workshop titled “SANDIWA: A Meeting of Minds for the Identification of STI Foresight Indicators” on August 8-9, 2023, at the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), Los Baños, Laguna.
The workshop was attended by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Assistant Secretary, Dr. Napoleon K. Juanillo Jr., the PAGTANAW 2050 Project leader, Academician Rhodora V. Azanza, STI Foresight Steering Committee chaired by Academician William G. Padolina, and STI Foresight Think Tank co-chaired by Academician Glenn B. Gregorio and Academician Mudjekeewis D. Santos.
