Call for youth action on SDGs highlighted in Zamboanga Speakers’ Bureau

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Office IX, conducted the Speakers’ Bureau Program as part of the 2019 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) and Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits (RICE) on September 11, 2019 at Palacio del Sur, Zamboanga City.
The Speakers Bureau is an activity of the NAST PHL, which aims to help academic institutions or any interested organizations by providing speakers and resource persons on science-related issues. This one-day activity was conducted to discuss and formulate relevant solutions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and encourage students to pursue a career in science and technology.
The experts invited were: Acd. Juan M. Pulhin and Acd. Rex Victor O. Cruz, members of the NAST PHL Social Sciences and Agricultural Sciences Divisions, respectively; Dr. Rico C. Ancog, Asssistant Professor V and UP Scientist III from the School of Environmental Science and Management (SESAM)-University of the Philippines Los Baños, and Dr. Marla M. Redillas, Associate Professor from Civil Engineering Department, De La Salle University Manila. The event was attended by 100 students and teachers from different schools in the region. The program was facilitated by Ms. Merly D. Alivio from DOST Regional Office IX.
PSHC conducted Salinlahi Conference: Embracing the Emerging Technologies in Museum Content Development in Los Baños, Laguna

The Philippine Science Heritage Center (PSHC) conducted the Salinlahi Conference with the theme “Embracing the Emerging Technologies in Museum Content Development” on September 10 – 11, 2019 in SEARCA, UP Los Baños, Laguna.
With the great impression raised by the new hologram exhibits of the Salinlahi launched last July 3, 2019, NAST has been motivated and inspired to offer a much improved facilities and interactive exhibits for the coming years.
The Salinlahi Conference is held to explore new technologies in presenting museum content and to come up with concept or design for the new exhibits and programs of PSHC. It also aims to explore future collaborations with the like-minded institutions.
The event was attended by different marketing technology companies that provides interactive experiences such as augmented reality, virtual reality, mixed reality, interactive projections and the like. The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Ruby R. Cristobal of DOST – SEI and supervised by NAST Academician Jose Maria P. Balmaceda. With the support and participation of the members of the PSHC Technical Working Group, the workshop has been a success in crafting new ideas and concepts for the PSHC new exhibits.
The event was co-sponsored and supported by Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA).
The Philippine Science Heritage Center is being managed and maintained by the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST PHL) as mandated by RA 9107. NAST Philippines is the country’s recognition and advisory body on matter related to science.
NAST PHL Conducts Regional Training and Seminar Workshop on Research Upgrading and Performance Evaluation in Region II

TUGUEGARAO CITY, CAGAYAN – The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), in cooperation with the Outstanding Young Scientists, Inc. (OYSI) and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region II, conducted two training-workshops of the Research Upgrading and Performance Evaluation project of NAST PHL at the Cagayan State University – Andrews Campus, Tuguegarao City. The activities aim to enable researchers to implement research projects and produce scientific paper that can be published in international refereed journals.
The Training-Workshop on Writing and Presenting Research Proposals Towards Building Science Culture, attended by 108 participants from various government institutions and state universities, was conducted on August 29-30, 2019.
Dr. Maribel L. Dionisio-Sese, Focal Person and Past President of OYSI and Professor at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), welcomed the participants of the training-workshop followed by the brief discussion about DOST and its projects by Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang, Regional Director of DOST Region II.
