Bringing science closer to the public especially to far flung areas not usually reached by the scientific conferences and seminars, the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST PHL), together with the Philippine Science Heritage Center (PSHC), in cooperation with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Provincial Science and Technology Center in Tagbilaran, Bohol held its Salinlahi Symposium Series in The Metro Centre and Conevention Center on September 20, 2018.
National Scientist, Angel C. Alcala, Academician Jurgenne H. Primavera, Dr. Edsel Maurice Salvaña, Mr. Jeffrey S. Perez, and Engr. Albert G. Mariño made the seminar workshop meaningful because of their discussion about, Philippine Land and Marine Biodiversity, Geological Stability, HIV Global Implications of the Philippine Epidemic and different scholarship offered by DOST-SEI.

PSHC is being managed and maintained by the National Academy of Science and Technology Philippines (NAST PHL) as mandated by Republic Act 9107. NAST PHL is the country’s recognition and advisory body on matters related to science and technology.
2nd Philippine Sarcoma Consortium Meeting

PASIG CITY – The Sarcoma Study Group of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), in cooperation with the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) and The Medical City, successfully organized the 2nd Philippine Sarcoma Consortium Meeting last September 29, 2018 at the Medical City, Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City.
The meeting was attended by almost a hundred doctors from various hospitals, institutions, and medical organizations across the Philippines. Some of the organizations and institutions involved include the Philippine Musculoskeletal Tumor Society, the Philippine Society of Pediatric Oncology, the Philippine Society of Medical Oncology, the Philippine Society of Oncology, and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).
The meeting aims to spread awareness and educate both the medical community and the lay people regarding bone sarcoma and soft tissue sarcoma. It also wants to improve existing specialty centers and develop and implement standardized treatment protocols. The discussions centered on the consensus treatment pathway of both bone and soft tissue sarcoma and the diagnosis and management of soft tissue sarcoma, with emphasis on synovial sarcoma. Overall, its long-term goal was to enhance collaboration in order to better manage and understand these difficult diseases.
NAST PHL Speakers Bureau Conducted In Region II

GONZAGA, CAGAYAN - In celebration of the Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW), the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office II successfully organized the Speakers Bureau on August 15, 2018 at the Riverview Hotel and Resort, Gonzaga, Cagayan.
This activity is a program under the Advisory Function of NAST PHL which aims to bring experts in various fields to the regions to lend their expertise to academic institutions or any interested organizations who are in need of speakers and resource persons on any science-related issues. This project was conceived primarily to serve provincial centers, which have less access to S&T information, through scientific and technological lectures as requested by different regions.
The activity was attended by over eighty (80) researchers and development practitioners, representatives from state universities and colleges, and government offices from all over Cagayan. Experts invited were: Dr. Alonzo A. Gabriel, OYS 2013, professor from UP Diliman, Dr. Angel B. Encarnacion, OYS 2018, officer-in-charge of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Dr. Rico C. Ancog, assistant professor V and scientist III from UP Los Baños, and Dr. Laura T. David, OYS 2007, professor VII from UP Diliman.
