NAST PHL to Conduct Scienteach in Eastern Samar

EASTERN SAMAR – The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Office VIII and the PSTC Eastern Samar, will conduct this year’s sixth episode of ScienTeach: A Virtual Symposium for the Youth in Eastern Samar on 4 November 2022, at 9:00 AM via Zoom with a simultaneous live broadcast on the NAST PHL official Facebook page.
Three (3) NAST PHL members and eminent scientists are invited to talk to share their knowledge and experiences in their fields of expertise. They are Academician Fabian M. Dayrit, Professor Emeritus at the Department of Chemistry, Ateneo de Manila University, Academician Marco Nemesio E. Montaño, a retired Professor at the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute, and Academician Alvin B. Culaba, Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering and University Fellow at the De La Salle University Manila. The symposium will be moderated by Dr. Paul Gideon D. Lasco, 2022 Outstanding Young Scientist, Senior lecturer at the University of the Philippines Diliman, and a research fellow at Ateneo de Manila University.
The event will also be participated by DOST VIII Regional Director Engr. Ernesto M. Granada and DepEd VIII Regional Director Dr. Evelyn F. Fetalvero.
The ScienTeach or virtual Symposium for the Youth is a collection of episodes that highlights varying topics featuring National Scientists, NAST Members, and its awardees who are accomplished in their respective fields. Its objectives are to promote science and technology, bring our scientists closer to the youth, and inspire and encourage students to pursue a career in science.

Beyond Health: NAST PHL Conducted Science Legislative Forum on Philippine Virology Science and Technology Institute

Bicutan, Taguig City – The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) conducted the Science Legislative Forum on Philippine Virology Science and Technology Institute on 10 October 2022via Zoom and Facebook Live.
Academician Arvin C. Diesmos, member of the Biological Sciences Division of NAST PHL, presented an overview of this legislative forum and introduced the concept of One Health to promote balance and optimize the health of people. He also emphasized the main objectives of this legislative forum: to fast-track the process of establishing a vaccine institute and to secure support from all stakeholders from different sectors.
NAST PHL to Conduct Science Legislative Forum on Philippine Virology Science and Technology Institute

Bicutan, Taguig City – The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) will be holding a virtual Science Legislative Forum (SLF) on Philippine Virology Science and Technology Institute on 10 October 2022, 9:00 – 12:00 PM via Zoom and Facebook Live.
With the recent approval of House Bill No. 9559, also known as the Virology Institute of the Philippines (VIP) Act by the House of Representatives, the Philippine Virology Science and Technology Institute will be part of the government's response to public health emergencies.
The virtual forum will emphasize the need to fast track the process of establishing a vaccine institute and to secure support from all stakeholders from different sectors. Scientists and various stakeholders will discuss and provide information to legislators on how important it is for the law to be passed immediately.
Representative Carlito S. Marquez, chair of the House Committee on Science and Technology; Senator Alan Peter S. Cayetano, chair of the Senate Committee on Science and Technology; and Senator Christopher Lawrence T. Go, chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, will share their statement of support for the idea of a Virology Institute.
Representatives from the House of Representatives, Senate, and media are expected to attend the said event.
