NAST conducted the Dialogue with NAST Scientists (Lecture Series) and Symposium for the Youth in the following provinces:
- Camiguin Island (January 24-25, 2018)
- Mulanay, Quezon (March 5-6, 2018)
- Bacolod City (April 10, 2018)
- Clark, Pampanga (May 8, 2018)
- Catarman, Northen Samar (September 17-18, 2018)
- Tagum City, Davao del Norte (September 24-25, 2018)
Daet, Camarines Norte (November 26-27, 2018)These activities aim to introduce NAST PHL and its members (National Scientists, Academicians, and Corresponding Members) to different sectors of the society. Participants of the Dialogue with NAST Scientists are faculty members from the state colleges and universities in the area, representatives from LGUs, and other interested researchers.
Symposium for the Youth participants are the students from various schools in the vicinity to encourage them to take careers in science.
Though these activities, there were 525 researchers and 1050 students reached. NAST and DOST awards were presented to them. (Niña Erika V. Barias/NAST)
NAST PHL conducts science policy and information forum on HIV/AIDS

PASAY CITY – The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) recently conducted the Science Policy and Information Forum on HIV/AIDS last November 19, 2018 at the Hotel Jen Manila.
The forum was conducted to discuss relevant and emerging issues in science and technology and provide necessary advice for policymakers and lawmakers. It was co-organized by the NAST PHL Social Sciences Division (SSD) and Health Sciences Division (HSD). The event is consisted of four lectures from specialists that deal with HIV/AIDS and will be capped off by an open forum.
The participants were welcomed by NAST PHL Vice President Academician Fabian M. Dayrit who stressed the need to talk about the issue of HIV/AIDS. He expressed hope that the activity will enlighten lawmakers on how to properly address the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Academician Dayrit, a professor of Chemistry at the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), also presented the objectives of the forum which centered on familiarizing the participants on the national situation and current programs and interventions on HIV/AIDS. It also included the objective to discuss policies and strategies that will ensure early detection and treatment of HIV/AIDS.
NAST PHL Held Speakers Bureau in Bohol

BOHOL, PHILIPPINES – The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office VII and Provincial Science and Technology Office of Bohol, recently conducted its Speakers Bureau last September 19, 2018 at REYNA'S the Haven and Gardens, Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
This activity is a program under the Advisory Function of NAST PHL, which aims to gather and bring experts in various fields to lend their expertise to academic institutions or any interested organizations who are in need of experts on science-related issues. This project was conceived primarily to serve provincial centers, which have less access to S&T information, through scientific and technological lectures as requested by different regions.
Experts invited were: Dr. Arvin C. Diesmos, OYS 2008, scientist III from National Museum of the Philippines, Dr. Juan Carlos T. Gonzalez, OYS 2011, director of the UP Los Baños Museum of Natural History, Acd. Marco Nemesio E. Montaño, member of the Mathematical and Physical Sciences Division of NAST PHL, Acd. Guillermo Q. Tabios III, member of the Engineering Sciences and Technology Division of NAST PHL, and Mr. Jeffrey S. Perez, OYS 2017, supervising science research specialist from Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS).
