NAST PHL Gathered Researchers from the NCR for a Virtual Writing and Presentation Training

The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), in cooperation with DOST-NCR Regional Office and the Outstanding Young Scientists, Inc. (OYSI), conducted the first virtual Research Upgrading and Performance Evaluation (RUPE) Training Workshop on Writing and Presenting Research Proposals Toward Building A Science Culture on October 14, 21, and 28, 2021. The workshop was conducted by a combination of synchronous and asynchronous sessions via Zoom.
The program is part of the RUPE project of NAST PHL, which aims to build the capacity of young and aspiring researchers in preparing good quality and highly competitive research proposals. The RUPE project aims to improve the productivity and the international visibility of the country's science and technology community. It also aims to make an impact in the field of research and development by creating an exchange of ideas from different expertise and collaborations in the scientific community to upgrade the quality of research, scientific outputs, and publications.
Invited experts were Dr. Maribel L. Dionisio-Sese, Professor at the University of the Philippines Los Baños, Dr. Allan N. Soriano, Professor at the De La Salle University, and Dr. Windell L. Rivera, Professor at the University of the Philippines Diliman.
NAST PHL holds Webinar on Viral Evolution

BICUTAN, TAGUIG CITY – The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) held a webinar on Viral Evolution on 6 October 2021. The online forum aimed to provide a deeper understanding of the underlying principles and mechanisms of viral evolution and substantially contribute to the formulation of implementable actions towards a more competent management and control of viral diseases in humans and animals. The webinar was also held in support of the Academy’s recommendations on this topic that were put forward through the resolutions of the 2021 Regional Scientific Meetings (RSMs) and the 43rd Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM).
In her welcome remarks, NAST PHL President Academician (Acd.) Rhodora V. Azanza mentioned the disruption and transformation of society brought about by the global COVID-19 pandemic. She highlighted the important role of the scientific community in providing knowledge and solutions to the pandemic and the control and prevention of other viral diseases.Acd. Gisela P. Concepcion gave an overview of the webinar. In addition to supporting the Academy’s resolutions on the need to support a comprehensive genomic biosurveillance system and “develop curricular programs on viral evolution, strengthen training and mentorship, and provide research funds to advance virology, wildlife ecology, and conservation.” Acd. Concepcion also noted that the webinar is being held to increase awareness on the proposed Virology and Vaccine Institute of the Philippines (VIP). She rallied scientists of all disciplines to face the challenge of the pandemic with courage and humility towards a whole-of-nature, whole-of-science approach.
NAST PHL to Conduct Scienteach in Isabela

ISABELA –The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), in partnership with Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Office II and PSTC Isabela, will conduct the ScienTeach: A Virtual Symposium for the Youth in Isabela on October 5, 2021 at 10:00 AM via Zoom with a live broadcast on the NAST PHL, DOST REGION 2 and PSTC ISABELA social media accounts. This symposium is open for all junior and senior high school students.
