CAPIZ –The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Office VI and PSTC Capiz, and the Department of Education Region ___, will conduct the second episode for this year’s ScienTeach: A Virtual Symposium for the Youth in Capiz on April 27, 2022, at 9:00 AM via Zoom with a live broadcast on the NAST PHL social media accounts. This webinar is open to all junior and senior high school students from Region VI.

Three (3) distinguished scientists are invited to the event as resource speakers to share their knowledge and experiences in their respective fields of expertise. They are Academician Carmencita D. Padilla, an expert in human genetics; Dr. Jomar P. Rabajante, 2021 Outstanding Young Scientist awardee, and Dr. Krista Danielle S. Yu, 2017 Outstanding Young Scientist awardee. The symposium will be moderated by Dr. Jolleen Natalie I. Balitaan, an alumna of the 2021 Future Science Leader Forum.

The ScienTeach or virtual Symposium for the Youth started in the year 2020 in partnership with the DOST Regional Offices. ScienTeach is a collection of episodes that highlights varying topics featuring National Scientists, NAST Members, and its awardees who are accomplished in their respective fields. Its objectives are to promote science and technology, bring our scientists closer to the youth, and inspire and encourage the students to pursue a career in science.

The event will also be participated by NAST PHL President Rhodora V. Azanza, NAST PHL Vice President Fabian M, Dayrit, Schools Division Superintendent of Capiz Dr. Salvador O. Ochavo, Jr., and DOST VI Regional Director Rowen R. Gelonga.

BICUTAN, TAGUIG CITY—The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) will conduct the Virtual Paper Presentation of Finalists of the 2022 NAST Talent Search for Young Scientist (NTSYS) Award on April 11, 2022 via Zoom and Facebook live. Five (5) exemplary finalists from different institutions will vie for the coveted award.

The year’s finalists and their selected paper for presentations are

  1. Melchizedek I. Alipio, De La Salle University – “RT-CaCC: A Reliable Transport with Cache-Aware Congestion Control Protocol in Wireless Sensor Networks”
  2. Renann G. Baldovino, De La Salle University – “A hybrid fuzzy logic-PLC-based controller for earthquake simulator system”
  3. Miriam F. Bongo, De La Salle University – “Effect of Fatigue in Air Traffic Controllers’ Workload, Situation Awareness, and Control Strategy”
  4. Virgilio D. Ebajo, Jr., De La Salle University - “Regenerable Acidity of Graphene Oxide in Promoting Multicomponent Organic Synthesis”
  5. Jae Joseph Russell B. Rodriguez, University of the Philippines Los Baños - “An integrated system for forensic DNA testing of sexual assault cases in the Philippines”

The NAST Talent Search for Young Scientists is a project of NAST PHL to encourage young people to pursue a career in science. The Board of Judges will be chaired by National Scientist Raul V. Fabella with Acd. Ruben L. Villareal, Acd. Jose Maria P. Balmaceda, Acd. Carmencita D. Padilla, Acd. William T. Torres, Acd. Gisela P. Concepcion, and Usec. Renato U. Solidum Jr. of the Department of Science and Technology as members.

The best presentors will receive plaques of recognition and a cash prize of P100,000 for the First Prize, P50,000 for the 2nd Prize, and P30,000 for the 3rd Prize. The First Prize Winner will also be receiving a research grant worth P500,000 from the Department of Science and Technology for an approved proposal. The special citations will receive a plaque of recognition a cash incentive of P10,000.

BICUTAN, TAGUIG CITY - In the next two months, the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Offices, will jointly hold the 2022 Regional Scientific Meetings (RSMs). The RSMs are annually organized in the three major island clusters of the country namely Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao as part of the NAST PHL’s and DOST’s long-standing commitment of bringing science closer to the Filipino people. The RSMs provide a venue for the discussion of relevant and timely regional concerns, and the presentation of S&T-based recommendations.

This year, NAST PHL has chosen PAGTANAW 2050 as the focus of the 2022 Regional Scientific Meetings (RSM) and its 44th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) to promote awareness and initiate the mobilization of the Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) community towards futures thinking and a sustainable blue and circular economy.

PAGTANAW 2050 is the first inter- and trans-disciplinal Philippine-focused STI Foresight to harness science and technology as tools towards innovations in products, processes, and organizations to develop our natural endowments as an archipelagic and maritime nation towards a blue and circular economy. Under the shared vision of a “Prosperous, Archipelagic, Maritime Nation”, PAGTANAW 2050 supports a technology-explicit development agenda for a globally competitive Philippine blue and circular economy that is knowledge-based, inclusive, and sustainable. PAGTANAW 2050 aims to nurture an educated, healthy, and productive citizenry.
